Mama Mull's Chili

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 (8 ounce) can water
  • 1 (16 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
  • 1 envelope lipton onion soup mix
  • 1/4 cup red wine or 1/4 cup beer
  • 1 can red kidney beans
  • salt and pepper
  • tabasco sauce

Recipe

  • 1 in a large pot, brown the ground beef; pour off excess fat.
  • 2 add onions and garlic; cook for several minutes over medium heat.
  • 3 add chili powder and onion soup mix; stir thoroughly.
  • 4 add water; cook and stir until the soup mix dissolves.
  • 5 add tomato sauce and wine/beer; bring to boiling point and reduce heat to a simmer.
  • 6 cook 1 hour.
  • 7 continue cooking over low heat for another 1 to 2 hours; stirring occasionally, adding water if necessary.
  • 8 about 20 minutes prior to serving, check for seasonings- salt, pepper, and tabasco.
  • 9 add beans; simmer until beans are heated through.
