Glühwein (mulled Wine) - Debrosses Restaurant, Berlin

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 (750 ml) bottle dry red wine
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds
  • 1 tablespoon anisette
  • 1 cinnamon stick, broken in half
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon packed finely grated lemon peel
  • 1/4 teaspoon packed finely grated orange peel
  • 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise

Recipe

  • 1 combine wine, sugar, raisins, almonds, anisette, cinnamon stick, cloves, lemon peel, and orange peel in heavy large saucepan.
  • 2 scrape in seeds from vanilla bean and then add bean.
  • 3 bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes to blend flavors.
  • 4 (can be made 1 day ahead. cool, cover, and chill. bring to simmer before serving.).
